Two beekeepers in West Philadelphia started the Woodlands Community Apiary in 2010 as a way to steward pollinators sustainably in an urban setting, connect the community to their food and provide engaging work experience for youth.  A core group of volunteers now inspect the hives, provide workshops and distribute honey.  Today, several youth have worked at the apiary, hundreds have attended workshops, almost a metric ton of honey has been distributed and we’ve expanded to the Mill Creek Farm (Philly) and Smiling Dog Farm (Mt Holly, NJ).
